Sailing, swimming, riding, fishing, golf, boat trips and water sports are plentiful in the area as well as many historical sites and beautiful gardens to visit, including the National Trust’s Threave Gardens.
Close to the Galloway Forest Park, home to the first Dark Sky Park in Europe, and central to five of the 7 Stanes, it is a popular location for cyclists and mountain bikers. For a quiet and relaxing day you can wander round the many seaside villages and towns like Kippford and Rockcliffe and a must is the pretty little harbour town of Kirkcudbright which still has a busy and bustling harbour where you can watch the fishing boats return with their catch. Stroll through the town and visit the famous Broughton House, the magnificent ruins of MacLellan’s castle or just experience the Arts and Crafts Trail.
